Enjoy your stay...

Welcome to Bayfield, Wisconsin. We are the "Gateway to the Apostle Islands" and have been voted the "The best little town in the Midwest" by the Chicago Tribune.

The location of the Harbor View is one of its nicest features. It is only 1.5 blocks from the ferry docks, sailing, excursion boats, kayaking (all of which you can see you're your deck), and only two blocks from shopping and restaurants.

A perfect stay could begin with coffee on your deck maybe with some yummy rolls from one of the fresh bakeries in town. Then walk one-block down to the ferry for a ride to Madeline Island to enjoy the museum (a must!), biking or scootering to the other side for beaches. And/or you can book an excursion boat for a tour of the Apostle Islands or the express boat to Stockton Island for a half day.
Sailing is another wonderful way to get out on the water -- a two-three hour sail on the bay lets you know you are on Lake Superior. For more exercise you can take advantage of one of two kayaking outfits for a paddle on the lake, perhaps to the sea caves.

Hiking is another popular activity - my favorite is Meyer Beach where you can hike out to above the sea caves. A more relaxing hike is the Brownstone trail along the lake down to Port Superior.

Above all, you must reserve at least a half day for shopping not to mention the orchards.

(So you see, you must come for at least three days.)

After a full day of activity you can relax with refreshments on your deck before strolling down two blocks for dinner at one of Bayfield's excellent restaurants. Whitefish and lake trout are always fresh - and don't forget the whitefish livers!

At the end of the day you might want to sit on your deck and watch the moon reflecting on the bay as it comes up over the island. Some of my guests report seeing the Northern Lights, but I have never had that thrill.
